The Canberra Tamil School (CTS) was established in 1991 with the support of the Canberra Tamil Association. Over the three decades, the school had a significant growth into one of the largest and vastly active community language school in Canberra. CTS has taught the Tamil language and Tamil culture to hundreds of students from Pre-school to Year 10.

We have two campuses. The North campus located at Palmerston primary school and South campus located at Namadgi School, Kambah. Both campuses operate on Saturdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm during a school term. This year we have more than 110 students and 30 volunteer teachers.

We are a non-profitable and non-religious school. We operate with the support of ACT language association and an enthusiastic group of qualified volunteers who are committed to teaching Tamil in an enjoyable and friendly way through singing, storytelling and games, however, our teaching syllabus is based on the Canberra Tamil School study guide. Also, our Tamil school children participate in an Annual writing and verbal competition conducted by the Australian Society of Graduate Tamils (ASoGT) every year.

Moreover, Our Tamil school emphasize cultural aspects by celebrating important festivals such as Saraswathi pooja, Theepavali, Christmas and school annual concert (Inpath Tamil Vizha). During the festival celebrations and school concerts, we express our Tamil culture and language through dance, music, drama, literature and rituals.

The school also hold an annual Sports and BBQ day event to unite teachers, students, parents and Canberra Tamil association members. This event was well received by the Tamil families over the past years and is becoming a significant event of CTS.

Our aim is to teach our language and culture to our younger generation and make them proud to speak the Tamil language and celebrate our Tamil culture.
